MiniMuffs® Neonatal Noise Attenuators

Reduce ambient sound levels by at least 7 decibels (dB), cutting sound pressure by over 50% to help infants sleep, stabilize oxygen levels, and cope with loud hospital environments.

MiniMuffs® are soft, single-use neonatal noise attenuators that fit around the infant’s ears with a gentle hydrogel adhesive to reduce sound reaching the ear.

Vertical Integration:
End-to-end control of design, manufacturing and distribution of our healthcare devices and supplies

Supply Chain Reliability:
A robust network with 4 distribution centres ensures resilient operation and inventory security.

Regulatory Expertise:
We follow North American compliance
and clinical standards.

The Challenge:
Neonates can be exposed to disruptive noise in the NICU from alarms, equipment, staff activity, and hospital construction, as well as during MRI exams, special patient care procedures, transfers between hospital units, and emergency vehicle transport. Clinical teams need a quick, comfortable, single-use option that can be applied without capital equipment.

The Solution:
MiniMuffs® reduce the level of sound reaching the neonate’s ears using a soft foam, oval-shaped design and gentle hydrogel adhesive. The disposable, single-use design supports infection control practices and helps provide a quieter environment during care and transport.

  • MiniMuffs® Neonatal Noise Attenuators are used to reduce the sound level reaching a neonate’s ears during short-term supervised hospital use or clinical transport.

  • They are intended for professional use with neonates in a hospital setting or during clinical transport.

  • The IFU indicates short-term hospital use with neonates in a supervised setting for less than 24 hours. Follow your facility’s infection control and skin-care protocols to determine the appropriate length of use.

  • The IFU states there are no known contraindications or side effects related to CHS MiniMuffs Noise Attenuators. Users should examine skin per facility protocol and discontinue use if irritation, abrasion, or edema is present.

  • Yes. The IFU states the product is for use with neonates in a hospital setting or during clinical transport to reduce noise levels and support longer periods of sleep time.

  • Use care when removing. Wet a cotton swab or gauze pad and gently work under the edge to loosen the hydrogel while supporting the underlying skin

  • Do not fold or bend the ear, do not force large ears into the earmuffs, do not place over compromised skin, avoid placing earmuffs on hair, and do not press on the raised center.

  • Remove each earmuff from the release liner one at a time. Position the earmuff around the neonate’s ear and press the edges gently but firmly to ensure a good seal.

  • The IFU lists a 7 dB Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) when used as directed. NRR was calculated in accordance with EPA 550/9-79-256.

  • Yes. MiniMuffs are single-use only and disposable. Dispose of them after use according to facility procedures.
